Viticulture and Wine Center
About Us and Our Partners
The Finger Lakes Region
New York State is home to a $6.5-billion wine industry, including over 450 wineries and 35,000 acres of vineyards. With a cool climate and short growing season, the region receives worldwide recognition for its Riesling, while also producing a healthy variety of other whites, rosés, sparklings and reds. The Finger Lakes is the fastest developing of the state's wine-growing regions.
The charm of the Finger Lakes region goes beyond the vineyard, as people come from all over the world to explore the small town rural atmosphere of our 11 Finger Lakes. Here, students experience the ultimate outdoor classroom!
Regional Partners
Operating in partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension's Finger Lakes Grape Program, students have the opportunity to conduct research and hold demonstrations for local grape growers. At FLCC's neighboring outdoor classroom – the Teaching and Demonstration Vineyard at Anthony Road Wine Company – students prune vines in the winter, scout for potential diseases and insect pests in the summer, and harvest grapes in the fall for a student winemaking project.
